Why Dryer Vent Cleaning?

Much like your chimney, your dryer vent is another passageway to expel exhaust and debris to the outdoors, and it can get clogged over time.

Your dryer’s job is to push hot, moist air to the outside so your clothes can dry. This passage way gets clogged with lint and debris over time, trapping moisture and blocking air from expelling properly. 

Lint is flammable. The National Fire Protection Association estimates that U.S. fire departments responded to approximately 15,970 home fires caused by clothes washers and dryers between 2010 and 2014. Ninety-two percent of these fires involved clothes dryers, and 25% were ignited by dust, fiber or lint.

Complicating matters are laundry rooms installed on upper levels of the home. They have longer vents with twists and turns, making it easier for lint to clog but harder for homeowners to clean themselves. Gas dryers emit carbon monoxide, and a blocked vent can cause the fumes to enter the home, which can be deadly.

When your dryer vent is clogged, you will notice that it takes longer to dry your clothes, your clothes will feel hot to the touch, and you may even notice a burning smell coming from the dryer.
